Happy Thanksgiving!

Celebrated primarily in the U.S. and Canada, Thanksgiving is a day set aside to give thanks. In the US, it’s celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November; in Canada, the second Monday in October.

As with all celebrations, food figures prominently, more specifically, turkey with stuffing, accompanied by cranberry relish, macaroni and cheese, string beans, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin or pecan pie. We’re not big fans of turkey, so in our house, we usually serve some of our favorites: fish, seafood, pork, mutton.

Unfortunately, I have no photos of past meals, but I do have several of meals I’ve had during my travels. Some were in restaurants, others were at friends’ homes.

So in observance of the holiday in the U.S., please enjoy this selection.

Among the things I’m thankful for this year is that my brother was not seriously hurt when a driver ran a red light and plowed into his car.

What are you thankful for?

This is my submission to Travel Photo Thursday, which is organized by Nancie at Budget Travelers Sandbox. Be sure to head over and check out more photos from locations around the world.

  1. Ouch, glad to hear your brother is OK.

Funny how holidays in America are so closely related to huge amounts of food. Love the outdoor dining table in Zimbabwe.

  2. Beautiful series, my mouth is watering and it’s barely 6 a.m.! Such good news about your brother!! My thankful list is long today and among the things on it, is my wonderful, widening group of friends that I’ve met through TPThursday. . .just like you! Happy Thanksgiving Marcia!

  3. I have to be perfectly honest with you. Although I love your pictures and your thoughts, I think I need to come back to look at this in a day or two. Problem is, I just recently finished a two-day round of cooking, and a two-hour round of eating, and I don’t think I can look at one more food-related item!

  4. Anything with crab or mango in it hits a chord with me.

I’m thankful for my health and the ability to travel and do the things I like to do – and as I get older I realize how really very lucky I am.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Thanks, Jackie. It’s hard not to think of food on this day of thanksgiving but there’s much to be thankful for.
I, too, am thankful for this blogging community — and glad about my brother.
    Happy Thanksgiving, Jackie!

  6. Thanks, Sophie.
Yes, food, lots of it, is always central to the holidays.
It is one of my favorite and more memorable meals. It’s not often that I get to eat outside like that — it was fun.

  7. I’ll have the jerk lobster, please. It sounds delicious. So glad that your brother is fine. Happy Thanksgiving! My turkey is in the oven right now.

  8. I would love the desserts 🙂 Happy Thanks Giving to you and your family Marcia 🙂
I am thankful for all that God has given me.

  9. Everything looks delicious! Very glad to hear that your brother is okay. I ‘m thankful to still have my Dad around (and in good health), at the age of 89. I’m also thankful for my own good health. Happy Thanksgiving!

  10. So happy to hear that your brother is OK after that accident – definitely something to be thankful for. Apologies for this belated “Happy Thanksgiving” to you! Enjoyed all of these delicious food photos. The steak & fries in Paris sure looks familiar. I’ve had more than my share of that dish! 🙂

  11. Thanks, Cathy. It was a scary few days, we’re all relieved he’s okay.
Glad you enjoyed the photos. I’m sure you probably have had the steak and fries.
Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  12. Thanks, Nancie. I remember you mentioned your dad. It’s definitely a wonderful thing to have him around at 89 and definitely something to be thankful for, and for your good health.
    Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

  13. I’m glad to hear your brother is fine, Marcia! I am so happy I am stuffed with dinner right now because these all look so mouth watering good. I love how everything is arranged and these are all just feast for the eyes. I’m sure you enjoyed every one of them. I have never heard of jerk lobster but yes, one for me too please 🙂 Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving too!

  14. Oh, thanks, Mary.
Hahahaha, I’m glad to hear you’re stuffed — it isn’t a post to look at when you’re hungry.
That jerk lobster was really delicious. I’ve tried to do a jerk lobster but mine didn’t come out as well. I did have a great Thanksgiving, Mary. Thanks again.

  15. I love your selection of food! So interesting how it varies from country to country:-) Very glad to hear your brother is doing well, that must have been very scary! I’m thankful I got to spend the holiday with my grandparents this year.

  16. They look so yummy!! I’m hungry again at this moment. I’m from Chiang Mai, Thailand and I saw many tourists and Thai Christians have a ceremony and nice dinner with their family on Thanks giving day. It’s a nice festival. If you have a chance to travel to Chiang mai or Bangkok, there’re many nice restaurant and activities to do and enjoin with your family. 🙂

Thank you very much for sharing!

  17. You’re welcome, Kittapak. Thanks for visiting.
I hope to visit Chiang Mai one of these days. I’ve heard wonderful things about it. I didn’t realize that Christians in Thailand celebrate Thanksgiving. Very interesting.

  18. Awesome, this was a definitely nice post. In idea I would like to put in writing like this in addition – taking time and actual effort to create a extremely beneficial article?- but what can I say?- I procrastinate alot and by no means seem to get some thing done.
