Weekly Photo Challenge: Hands

It’s hard to think of what our lives would be like without our hands, the subject of this Weekly Photo Challenge. We use them in so many different ways – to tie our shoe laces, comb our hair, feed ourselves and others, dress, write, and gesture.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unfocused

When I saw the topic for this week’s challenge, I swore out loud. Usually, I delete photos that are unfocused or blurry – why keep them, I think to myself. And with a digital camera, it’s easy and it’s immediate. No waiting until the photo’s printed. There’s no reminder, no evidence of my miscalculation. I searched and found this:

Weekly Photo Challenge: Together

When I saw this little boy walking with a bucket almost twice his size to the nearby river, I was puzzled. Why was he going to the river, I wondered. Isn’t he too small to be going into the water by himself? These questions popped into my head as I watched. Other people were around – adults and children – some of them in the river bathing and playing around, but none of them his size. No one seemed to notice.

Just as I walked past, he waded into the shallow part and plunged the bucket into the water. I kept walking but I kept looking back to see what he was going to do.

As he struggled with the now full bucket, water splashed from the sides and ran down his foot. Finally, he reached the horse, his father’s, I was told. He gently set it down and the horse dunked its head into the bucket. He waited patiently for the horse to finish. When he felt it’d had enough, he picked up the bucket and splashed the rest of the water on the animal then walked back in the same direction from which he had appeared. I smiled.

This is my entry to WordPress’s Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s theme is together.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Two Subjects

It was a bit harder to find photos that described the subject of this week’s Photo Challenge by WordPress. Would love to hear what you think about my choice.

This might seem like an unlikely pairing – elephants and cape buffalo – but these two of the Big Five animals – the rhino, leopard and lion are the others — didn’t seem to mind sharing the same watering hole.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Journey

I love the word journey. It suggest so much more than a trip, tour, travel or visit. Each place I visit is a new journey, a new opportunity to explore and learn something about the people who live there, their language, culture and way of life, etc.

Because journey is such a strong word, I knew that it had to be part of my blog name, InsideJourneys. And when I saw that it was the theme for this week’s Photo Challenge at WordPress, I had no doubt that I’d have plenty of suitable photos to choose from.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Unusual

I don’t know about you, but I’ve never seen a carrot like this one. When I looked at it, I saw a woman dressed  in a bathing suit lying on her side on the beach. She wore dark sun glasses and a broad floppy hat and had her legs crossed seductively as if waiting for that someone. Then I knew: it looked like one of those 1950s pinup girls, you know the one that GIs used to hang on their walls. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to take a photo. I wanted to have a clear and lasting memory of it and used all the others in the bag I had bought before carefully and gently scraping the skin off to use it.

In New York City, contrasts between old and new buildings are everywhere. I used to walk by these two almost daily and see but not see them until I started taking my camera with me.

This wasn’t the shot I aimed for but I like what I ended up with.

The contrast of the colors caught my attention. Individually, each flower is striking; together, they are a knockout. I just wish I knew their names.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Indulgence

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw that this week’s photo challenge is indulgence, was, of course, food. But there are so many other ways to indulge and fortunately, I was able to find one non-food photo that captures it.
