Like most bloggers, I get two, sometimes three times as many spam as I do relevant comments. Spam is so annoying, I usually hit delete without even a second look. But late last year one caught my eye. The phrasing made me smile and I decided to keep it. And as I gathered more, I tried to imagine the individuals behind these comments. I mean, even if the spam is left by spambots, there’s a person somewhere along the food chain, right?
I decided to thank them, whoever they are, for fattening my folder with spam that made me smile or scratch my head. After all, if nothing else, I can depend on a few spam each day whether I have new content or not. Here are some of my favorites, unedited:
What i don’t realize is actually how you’re no longer actually much more smartly-favored than you may be right now. You are very intelligent. I drop a comment whenever I like a article on a site or I hafe something to add to the conversation. It is triggered by the fire displayed in the post I browsed. And on this post Jerk Roast Turkey for Thanksgiving – InsideJourneys. I was actually moved enough to post a thought I actually do have a few questions for you if you usually do not mind. Is it only me or do a few of the remarks come across as if they are left by brain dead people? And, if you are posting on other online social sites, I would like to keep up with everything fresh you have to post. Could you make a list every one of your shared pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
Greetings from Carolina! I’m bored to tears at work so I decided to check out your blog on my iphone during lunch break. I really like the knowledge you present here and can’t wait to take a look when I get home. I’m amazed at how quick your blog loaded on my cell phone .. I’m not eeven using WIFI, just 3G .. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own weblog and was wondering what all is needed to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% positive. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
I don’t know if it’s just me or if everyone else experiencing problems with your blog. It appears like some of the text in your content are running off the screen. Can someone else please provide feedback and let me know if this is happening to them as well? This might be a issue with my internet browser because I’ve had this happen before. Cheers
I was curious if you ever thought of changing the layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
Scratching my head spam
In the event your passion is something that consists of a bodily products, then one way you’ll be able to earn cash is by promoting these things.
Thanks for the spam!
Seriously, though, what spam blocker do you use?
Akismet (Professional) alone just isn’t doing it for me anymore.

Great article, Marcia 🙂
LOVE THIS! Really put a smile on my face this morning as well as provided a laugh or two while finishing coffee. I’ve never given spam anything more than a delete thought, but will certainly start paying more attention for the ‘good advice’ spam can offer – ha!
I’m so grateful for my Spam filter in Word Press and it made me smile to see some similar ones here too, Marcia! The scratching my head quote made me burst out laughing!! 🙂
I’d love to know which filter you’re using, Mike. I’m on to my second one today, will see how that does.
Glad you got a smile, Terry!
Thanks for your comment.
At least some of them are good for a laugh. Can you imagine having to spam blogs for a living? Cookies for Comments is a good plug-in.
Hahaha, true, some of them really are.
No, I can’t imagine anyone aspiring to get a job as a spammer. Definitely a job that sucks!
Thanks for the info on the plugin. Will check it out. I’m test driving Mollom and it’s been doing a fantastic job so far.
Ha! Ha! They’re all head scratching and funny indeed.
I use Akismet plug-in to filter spam. I’d say it successfully filters 99% of the spam.
That they are, Marisol!
I’ve been using Akismet since I started blogging and except for a few spam comments here and there, I’ve never had a problem.
Then I started getting a huge number — more than 100/day — despite having Akismet Pro. No point in paying for something that isn’t working so I’ve asked them to cancel my account.
LOL! I also get spammed by canada goose and others complimenting my blog. Fortunately, I have an admin guy who deals with the spam and other technical issues.
Canada Goose is annoying, I’m just glad to have found a spam plugin that shuts them down.
Kiss your admin guy next time you see him.
I was actually laughing while reading these. Some spam will really make you scratch your head.
